Researchers unveil the rich world of fish biofluorescence:
This photo shows a green biofluorescent chain catshark, Scyliorhinus retifer. Scientists have identified 180 species of fish that exhibit biofluorescence: they absorb blue light, transform it, and emit a different colour. These fish glow in neon shades of blue, red, orange and green. It is common among many species and could be used for communication within species while remaining camouflaged to predators and attracting a mate.
